PowerWRAP Overview

Rapid tesselation of complex geometry

Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) simulations and analysis often originate with a CAD model, rarely do these models have the prerequisite clean, water-tight manifold mesh required for CAE simulation– a process which often takes hours to weeks for a CAD engineer to accomplish. Exa PowerWRAP has changed and virtually eliminated this painfully slow step in the CAE process by providing the tools to quickly fix surfaces and wrap a complex or multi-part CAD geometry with a clean, ready-to-use surface.

With PowerWRAP, users require no CAD training to learn how to “wrap” their models quickly for simulation. Instead, any model described by a mass of elements may be wrapped efficiently using PowerWRAP including:

  • Incomplete models
  • Extremely complex models
  • Models with multiple layers and/or interior elements
  • Models comprised of separate components

Models of all conditions and complexities – even those of poor quality, may be imported and made ready for simulation, quickly and efficiently by PowerWRAP.

Complex parts like those in this motorcycle engine can be quickly prepared for a PowerFLOW simulation using PowerWRAP. Notice holes are carefully capped and many CAD parts are 'wrapped' as one, water-tight part. See PowerWRAP examples for a walkthrough of this process.

Some PowerWRAP features/benefits

  • Model preparation time can be reduced by 90%
  • Clean de-featured CAD model is no longer required for simulation setup
  • Easy to use and learn – no CAD software knowledge needed, only basic meshing skills required
  • Creates large set of CAE surface models covering the entire design space in hours rather than weeks
  • Complete geometry management tool: duplicate, mirror, segment, replace parts/pieces with ease

Reasons to 'WRAP' prior to simulation

OVERLAPS & DUPLICATION

  • CAD Programs often inadvertently introduce overlapping and/or duplicate surfaces. PowerWRAP quickly “wraps”around the final surface with ease...eliminating confusing surfaces that can cause simulation difficulties.

IGNORE GEOMETRY

  • PowerWRAP easily wraps a new surface over intersecting components, while allowing users to ignore unneeded interior geometry parts.

GAPS & CRACKS

  • CAD software often leaves tiny gaps and cracks between adjacent surfaces. PowerWRAP envelops the geometry with a new, complete manifold surface ready to import into CAE applications.

SMALL HOLES

  • Many parts in an assembly may contain parts and pieces with small holes which are not key to the final simulation. PowerWRAP can quickly cover these holes to simplify the surface.

UNINTERESTING GAPS

  • Often touching parts may create small, complex areas that can be tedious to get ready for simulation purposes. PowerWRAP helps users close uninteresting gaps with easy to simulate surfaces.
